What if Jesus looked at you?

You may be familiar with “imaginative prayer” where you use your God-given imagination to think about God, envision scripture, and picture yourself with Him.

When I pray I sometimes I imagine myself with Jesus walking down a quiet dirt road sort of like the picture.

The most impactful part of this is when I imagine Him turning and looking me in the eyes.

It’s a stunning experience that reminds me of “their hearts burned within them” as Jesus walked to Emmaus (Luke 24) with two others. Out of this prayer time a poem stirred in my heart that I wanted to share.

WHAT IF JESUS LOOKED AT YOU?

What if Jesus looked at you

More deeply than you ever knew

And with no urge to run or hide

Breathless joy there at His side

Piercing love flows from His eyes

Fixed on you, His dearest prize

So pause right now and take this in

Take it far beneath your skin

To the very core of self

Where you exchange His holy wealth

For all your sin and failing past

Scattered far like shards of glass

And as you look and see His gaze

Absent of your worldly haze

You’ll know your love has found its home

For in His sight you’ll never roam

Enjoy His love as it sinks in

Rest in it and then begin

To live your holy rescued life

Where peace reigns free without a strife
