Be someone’s fan

A pretty strong thunderstorm came through our backyard a few days ago.

It dropped some limbs and tossed around our little patio fan.

As a result, its cord was pulled from the power source, the fan blades broke into pieces and the front guard came off.

I suppose we’ll need to get a new one.

In many ways this broken-down, cracked and, apparently, useless fan is a picture of you and me.

We’ve been beat up by storms, tossed around, and unplugged from our power source.

We feel bruised and aren’t working like we used to.

The good news is this little fan still works.

I enjoyed it this humid morning. (see video!)

It wobbles, makes a strange noise and doesn’t put out the breeze it used to, but it works!

So, yes, you are this fan.

You may be broken and cracked and battered, but you still have value and you can still be a blessing to others.

Preaching to myself, I say: “Get back up. Get plugged in and go”.

Don’t let your broken, bruised or “less than new” appearance keep you from your intended purpose in this world -  loving God with all your heart, mind and soul and loving those around you with His gracious, caring, and patient love.

Be a cool breeze to the hot and weary, even if you are a bit wobbly.
