Tale of Two Hearts

My wife had an echocardiogram recently.

As I sat with her in that darkened room I was able to watch her heart flicker and flutter on the computer screen.

I shook my head several times thinking, "This is unbelievable. I'm sitting here watching my wife's actual heart."

I even got to hear her heart make hypnotic swooshing sounds, almost like a song, as blood flowed through her arteries.

I was blown away.

All I could think of was, "So many miracles of God at one time".

  1. The miracle of the echo machine itself. How on earth did someone invent such a magical machine?

  2. The skilled movement of the technician. How does she adjust her hand so effortlessly to get the right view of her ever-moving heart?

  3. The sheer wonder of the human heart. How could such a muscle with such intelligent design and precision exist apart from God Himself?

It all instantly made me think of how big God is.

Sort of like when you turn a corner on a mountain road and see a grand vista out your car window. That kind of wonder takes your breath away.

If that weren’t enough, there's my wife's other heart.

Her heart for God, for people, for architecture, for beauty, our family and, of course, animals. God has given her a beautiful expression of heart in how she sees the world. She cares deeply and wants the best for others. She trusts God for everything - things like finding her car keys! (Wow)

She prays for others so earnestly and is so naturally gracious. Much more gracious than me. I lean toward judgement, then give in to grace when I can safely see the other end of a situation. Not her.

God gives each of us two hearts.

One that beats 100,000 times a day with stunning precision and another that helps us express love and care for others through compassion, kindness, mercy, a smile, truth, an act of generosity, and more.

All attributes of the heart of our God.

We are truly made in His image.

Thank you God for my wife's healthy heart - both of them - and for giving us a glimpse of Your greatness.
