GLADNESS IN THE HEART

A gladness rests inside my heart
Then spills beyond to do its part
Of making friends and wishing well
To those with health and those more frail
/
And as I nod at passersby
I catch a glimmer in their eye
It’s hope relayed in some small part
From grace that dwells within their heart
/
Perhaps these smaller acts of grace
Of holding doors amidst the race
Is just a glimpse of something more
Perhaps a love we all long for
Watching folks, this truth I’ve found
When God’s in man, true love abounds
/
And when I have a chance to share
A kindness to the world so rare
It chips away at gloom and rot
And brings a joy right to the spot
Where we find ourselves each day
To help us move along our way
/
So, yes, the world knows trouble still
But let your joy now overspill
Into the lives you meet today
And warm your world, once cold and gray.
