Dust and Light

How God Shines Through Our Brokenness

On a walk recently, I noticed what looked like sunlight shining through mist. It was so beautiful that I took a picture.

Turns out it was common dust kicked up by a lawnmower. The sunlight hit it just right, turning ordinary dust into something that looked almost heavenly.

I think this is a picture of us.

We came from dust, and we too get stirred up, yet when surrounded by God’s light, something beautiful is created that goes beyond human understanding.

I hope you enjoy this poem.

A Poem About God’s Light in Our Lives

Dust and Light

/

Long ago, we were but dust

Lifeless as a thinning rust

Then His breath brought life to man

And souls were born, His sacred plan

/

So what is man but dust on earth

Formed from ground, and given worth

Broken, wounded, prone to stray

Yet God surrounds us every day

/

His light and glory shine on high

And brings to life all things that die

He takes our dust and sinful past

And casts a light that ever lasts

/

It shines in fields and valleys too

Revealing wonders, fresh and new

If others come among this dust

They’ll see the Maker, true and just

/

All that makes this dust so grand

Is light from His redeeming hand

The beauty of this life we live

Is solely due to light He gives.
