My Professional Journey

I began my career in the wireless industry, serving in leadership roles at AT&T and Verizon throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 2000, I became a partner in an early online learning company, a move that shifted my focus toward helping others grow through training, strategic planning, and consulting.

That passion ultimately led me to co-found LeaderGov, where, since 2012, my team and I have worked with thousands of local governments across the U.S., helping leaders build stronger teams through training services and craft clearer visions for their communities.

A Deepening Faith Journey

I gave my life to Christ at age 14 at my hometown Baptist church in Greenville, Mississippi. Like many, I drifted from my faith in my early adult years, but my heart was reawakened through powerful and personal encounters with Jesus at two events: a Tres Dias weekend retreat and a Souly Business men’s retreat in 2005. Key moments at those retreats became a turning point in my life.

From 2004 to 2010, I served as a small group leader at NorthPoint Community Church, and since 2009, I’ve served men at more than forty Souly Business men’s retreats. Most recently, I served as the organization’s Chapter Training Coordinator.

I also serve on the Board of Directors of Whisper, a student-led nonprofit tackling youth isolation, and on the prayer team for Intentional Marriage, a ministry that serves the soul needs of ministry couples.

The Compelling Pull to Writing

I’m a journalism major from the University of Mississippi, but my love for writing was rekindled in the early 2000s when I started writing a personal blog for my children. It sparked something deep inside me—a desire to express love and care through words—and it brought smiles to my kids.

Around 2015, my reflections began to turn poetic, eventually leading to the 2024 self-publication of my first devotional book, Divine Intersections. My writing is heartfelt, honest, and grounded in real life, with the hope of helping others connect with God in a deeply personal way.

Today, I’m actively working on three writing projects and recently launched VerticalLife.org, a devotional ministry and nonprofit dedicated to helping people grow closer to God in their everyday lives.

Family and Fun

My wife, Starwyn, and I have been married for 37 years and live in Alpharetta, Georgia. We are parents to three grown children and enjoy loving on our soon-to-be third grandson.

We attend Stonecreek Church in Milton, Georgia. I enjoy golfing, writing, sailing, gardening, spending time outdoors, and, most of all, cherishing time with my family.
